K: We have been in Moab, Utah the last several days. It lies at the base of Arches National Park and is a dusty little town that is a mecca of outdoor adventure. We found a great campsite on the banks of the Colorado River where I am getting my first taste of "real camping" (i.e., limited facilities). So far so good! Yesterday we did two hikes in Arches National Park to see some of the spectacular Arches in the outlying areas. It is spectacular scenery!!!! The hikes were a little daunting with 20-30 mph wind gusts. I did not get blown off a rock fin, but for a minute, I was on all fours.
Today the mountain biking was great. Not sure the trail guide was accurate with an easy+ rating. Let's just say, I did some walking with the bike in tow. But no scraps or bruises!
V: Moab, mountain biking, river running, hiking, absolutely a mecca for adventure! But first the bites! What great bison sausages were grilled over the campfire by Chef Karen, as I got the pasta and asparagus and wonderful roasted green and red chiles ready! Yum, yum, with some of Moab Brewery's finest Dead Horse Amber Ale and Scorpion Pale Ale!

Great hikes yesterday, but I thoroughly enjoyed today's mountain biking--two great trails, first in Dead Horse Point State Park, where Karen just cruised over dirt, dust, rock and brush, and then the Bar M trail outside of Moab. Let's just say I had a little easier time of it on the second trail than Karen did. I was cruising up and down those slickrock faces! Dang, now I want a $4,500 Ellsworth Epiphany mountain bike! And looking forward to an 8-mile kayak paddle down the Colorado tomorrow!
Go Vikes!
Highlights:
Sips: Lizard Ale Moab Brew Pub (where we are watching the Vikes/Packers Monday Night football game.)
Bites: Still a foodie even in a campsite. Grilled bison beer brats, cappellini with fresh roasted peppers and asparagus.
Sights: Arches National Park and Dead Horse State Park, Colorado River.
Hello Karen and her friend,
ReplyDeleteThe trip looks awesome!! Wish very much that you had expanded the trip invite list to include some other Philadelphians! I would be there in a flash. Hope you got to see the whole MNF game. Favre was impressive, as were the Vikings fans.
Chow, MR
Glad you're "going domestic" Karen!
ReplyDeleteSee you when you're back East...
