K: We traveled through the state of Wyoming to get to our first stop in Colorado, Boulder. Eastern Wyoming can pretty much be summarized as a desolate, windy, sparsely populated land. There is a reason that it is the least populated state in the US. One needs to check the fuel gauge before entering Wyoming as it is many miles between any signs of civilization. Boulder, Colorado: a super healthy, yoga, hiking, biking mecca. Yes, I got a yoga class in at the Yoga Pod! We had a fantastic hike with our friends Ian and Nadia up one of the peaks near Boulder. See picture to the right. We were on top of the middle peak!
V: Wow--a great day of hiking and driving up spectacular passes and summits! Of course, getting from Boulder to Leadville, we passed some interesting abodes, as Karen commented that those were the sorts of places that kidnappers out here in the desolate west would bring their victims. Driving up Independence Pass, between Leadville and Aspen, was absolutely riveting, white-knuckle in places, and mesmerizing to be among such majestic peaks! We hit it at the perfect time (thanks, Ian!) at sunset, as the mountains lit up in the amber glow, and the moon was beautiful over the peaks. In Aspen tonite, amidst the hoi polloi. Aspen IPA is yummy! Looking forward to Colorado National Monument and Arches National Park tomorrow!
Highlights:
Sips: Fat Tire and Aspen Beer
Bites: Jax Fish House, Boulder, CO - Top Chef winner Hosea Rosenberg's restaurant
Sites: Hiking a peak in Boulder and driving the Independence Pass to Aspen (top of the Continental Divide at 12,000 + feet).
