Last day in Indonesia, or paradise as we have begun to think. It has been a spectacular two and a half weeks. We know that we will be back to this country, both to return to places we have visited and to explore more.
Thus, some reflections on this now-a-favorite place:
- Helpful, friendly, smiling and happy Balinese people
- "Transport, mister? Tomorrow, sir?"
- Beautiful countryside
- Cheap beer
- Excellent cuisine - fresh herbs and spices
- Ease of travel everywhere, via bikes, scooters, horses, cars, vans
- Excellent command of the English language
- Coral-laden, white sand beaches of Gili Trawangan
- Magnificent temples on Java
- Vibrant art scene in Ubud
- The Yoga Barn
- Colorful, rainbowscopic batiks of Java
- A feeling of security, of safety, when walking anywhere at any time
- The wonderful rush of waves lulling one to sleep
- Jungle noises, birds squawking and monkeys screeching, as one wakes up
- Infinite offerings of massage, massage, massage
- Outdoor showers and toilets
- Beautiful Balinese and Javanese architecture
- Money changers galore -- better rates for bigger bills
